Government revamps clean energy plan

Stalled large-scale clean energy plants are more likely to be built after the Rudd government announced a dramatic revamp of its widely criticised renewable energy policy. Splitting the renewable energy target in two next year will effectively be creating an 18% target dedicated to large-scale projects. Australian building unions fined $1.3m for legal breaches

Under an agreed settlement, the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union and 2 of its officials have agreed to pay $1million in fines while the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and one of its officials have agreed to pay $325,000. In a blow to their campaign to have the building industry watchdog scrapped,the unions have accepted liability for more than 50 breaches of building laws over a series of unlawful strikes and coercion of people involved in the project to upgrade the West Gate Bridge.
