The Federal Court has ordered four organisers and their respective unions to pay $67,500 over a string of demonstrations at the Patricia-Baleen Gas Plant at Newmerella, 190km east of Melbourne, between November 2008 and March 2009. WorkCover NSW revealed that it received 94 complaints about asbestos in public and private schools since 2007. The agency in charge of promoting workplace safety in NSW said it received complaints that asbestos was exposed during construction, excavation and demolition. A Perth judge has overturned a decision to clear a construction company of failing to maintain a safe workplace when a severe cyclone slammed into a West Australian rail camp in 2007.
