Stephen has practised in the field of building, construction and development law for more than 19 years.

He has extensive experience in pre-contract and tender negotiations, contracts and sub-contracts as well as construction litigation, alternative dispute resolution, mediation, arbitration and adjudication under the Security of Payment Act.Stephen advises leading national and international construction companies, a number of major commercial and domestic builders, developers, project managers and key Government bodies regulating the building industry. He is a certified arbitrator, registered adjudicator and is the author of the Building Law Library.

Stephen is an experienced speaker in construction law matters and has lectured at a number of Queensland Law Society, LAAMS and IES conferences.

In the November 2006 issue of the Brisbane Lawyer Magazine, it was reported after an extensive survey of builders, developers, solicitors, barristers and in-house counsel that Holding Redlich Brisbane’s construction team, led by Stephen Pyman, was:

  • the market leader in Security of Payment Act work
  • the top mid-tier Brisbane firm in building and construction law
  • in the top 2 overall in building and construction disputes
