Caitlin is a Senior Associate in our Dispute Resolution & Litigation group with a particular expertise in tax.  Caitlin attained the internationally recognised Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) designation from the Tax Institute in early 2017 and is a Fellow of the Tax Institute.

Caitlin’s practice covers all aspects of taxation and has a particular focus on indirect taxes and tax controversy.  Caitlin has diverse experience advising a range of clients from small businesses though to global entities in Australia and abroad.

In 2019 Caitlin was a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly 30 under 30 Awards in the category of Taxation directly as a result her being the lead lawyer in litigation before the AAT concerning claims in respect of research and development tax offsets.

Caitlin’s areas of expertise include:

  • federal tax law (income taxes, GST and R&D) 
  • state revenues  (payroll tax, land tax and transfer duty) across each jurisdiction
  • trust law
  • succession
  • elder law
  • asset protection coupled with estate planning. 

Caitlin combines a detailed knowledge of state and federal taxation laws with a sound understanding of litigation and commercial realities to effectively represent the rights and interest of her clients in revenue disputes. She has the unique experience of having provided complex front end tax advice with litigation skills – in both a tax environment (and otherwise). She has advised on particular strategies to deal with risk reviews, audits and any resultant amended assessments.


Caitlin has acted in a wide range of matters in both state and federal jurisdictions.

Her recent experience includes:

  • advising a large resources company in a dispute with AusIndustry in respect of research and development tax offset claims
  • advising clients in respect of income tax obligations/disputes including, capital gains tax, default assessments, GST and penalties as well as superannuation guarantee obligations
  • advising clients in relation to indirect tax consequences of transactions including GST and transfer duty consequences and the applicability of concessions (in particular large property developers and investors on landholder and other state based revenues)
  • advising clients in relation to varying and vesting trusts (including on the CGT and other tax/revenue ramifications involved)
  • acting for clients in estate disputes and an matters regarding the removal of attorneys under the Power of Attorney Act.
